“Landscape”

BOKSHAI YOSYP, born on October 2, 1891 – died in 1975 – People’s artist of the USSR. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. 1910-1914 – studied at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts (tutor: I. Reves). Together with Adalbert Erdeli founded Transcarpathian School of Painting. Merited Artist of the USSR (Ukrainian SSR) since 1951, corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (since 1958), People’s Artist of Ukraine (1960). One of the most famous representatives of the Transcarpathian School of Painting, which combined Ukrainian flavour and traditions of European post-impressionism in his works. Y. Bokshai is logical and a lyricist at the same time. High demands for creativity and professionalism are closely intertwined in his works with spontaneity, cheerfulness and novelty of the worldview. The master almost never supplemented or rewritten his paintings. Lived and worked in Uzhgorod. Works are on display in museums in Ukraine and Europe.
