HLUSHCHENKO MYKOLA, born 1901, Novomoskovsk – died in 1977, Kyiv – people’s artist of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR. Laureate of Shevchenko National Prize of the USSR. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Famous ukrainian post-impressionist, follower of French post-impressionism, Fauvism. “Revolutionist” of color — became the inspiration for posterity in the latest pictorial quests. In 1918 he graduated from the commercial school in the city. Yuzivka (now Donetsk). Learned the basics of art at the Studio School of Hans Baluschek (Berlin). In 1920-1924 he continued his studies at the Berlin State School of Fine Arts in Charlottenburg. The training was paid for by Hetman P. Skoropadskyi, a former representative of the UPR (Ukrainian People’s Republic) in Germany Roman Smal-Stotskyi. Vladimir Vinnichenko helped organize his first solo exhibition in Berlin. In the 20s, French critics called Mykola Hlushchenko the best draughtsman in France! Until 1977 he lived and worked in Kyiv. According to the will of the artist many of his works were transferred to the Ministry of Culture of the USSR.
